TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

Mole Creek Caves & Gourmet Food

This tour will help you discover the magic of the hills and the valleys, the rivers and the mountains or even below the ground.  The Mole Creek Caves are a highlight not to be missed.

The Great Western Tiers, a rugged escarpment stands tall as a stark and ever changing backdrop to this scenic tour.  We drive through peaceful townships and unique villages reflecting the influence of early English settlers.

Our first stop is the Melita Honey Farm, a specialised retailer of honey and honey related products, including Active Manuka Honey.  This shop is located in the small rural village of Chudleigh.  Here you can see bees at work and sample over 50 different natural varieties of honey.

Next you head underground at the Marakoopa Cave.  This is a limestone cave in the Mole Creek Karst National Park.  This area is also the last known home of the Tasmanian Tiger (Thylacine).  The Marakoopa Cave features two underground streams, a large fascinating display of glow worms, rim pools, perfect reflections and other interesting cave features.

There is some world class produce available all through this area.  We drop in at Tasmanian Pure Continental Smallgoods, one of Tasmania’s most awarded smallgoods producers.  Taste the international gold medal winning Salami.  (We will not tell you what it is made out of.  You will need to taste it to find out!)  There is also the opportunity to purchase products at wholesale prices.

Our next stop is 41 degrees South Salmon Farm and Eco Experience.  Taste or purchase what is arguably the best smoked salmon in Tasmania and associated salmon products.  You can take a self- guided tour of the fresh water salmon ponds and the ginseng fields or take a walk along the boardwalk through the farm’s wetlands.

The Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm is one place where you can taste, feast and buy some truly delectable wholesome country style food.  Here you can relax and purchase your lunch and indulge in some of their delicious raspberry products, such as chocolate dipped raspberries, or rich creamy raspberry ice cream.

To complete the gourmet food experience, we drop in at the award winning Ashgrove  Cheese Farm.  Here you can taste unique cheeses with great flavours, including the famous Wild Wasabi cheese, all made with local ingredients.  You can also view the cheese making and purchase a large range of other gourmet food and wine products from the Ashgrove Shop.
